“Compost: a microbial miracle”
Kate Wynne of B2G Compost
Kate Wynne is a retired biologist who is diving into community composting with her B2G Compost facility in Winthrop. With an ecologist’s perspective, Kate incorporates compost biology and soil ecology into a broader effort to fight climate change and encourage waste repurposing in the Methow Valley. She is excited to swap stories, share insights, and exchange experiences with Methow growers and composters.

Methow Valley Farm and Food Business Social Gathering
Hosted by Patrick Law, Economic Program Director at Twispworks to bring together farmers and food business owners in the Methow Valley and to explore the challenges and opportunities for incorporating more locally produced food on local menus and valley grocery shelves.
Chef Maria Hines of Blue Sky Minds discussed the on-going food system assessment for Okanogan County.
Methow Valley Seed Collective, Classroom in Bloom, and the Twisp Valley Grange hosted an afternoon of Seedy festivities.

The annual Methow Valley Seed Swap began at 2:00 pm with an interactive program to learn about the ways we all save seed and the ways we can support each other in creating a community of seed savers to support our present and future seed security.

Anaka Mines of the Methow Valley Seed Collective
Anaka Mines will share some introductory concepts on how to save your own seeds from common crops in the Methow Valley. She’ll discuss the basics of how to adapt crops to our climatic region and why it’s so important to be adaptive in our approach to agriculture. As founder of the Methow Valley Seed Collective, she asks how can we work together as a community to maintain a supply of local seeds that we can all use and share? – the heart of seed saving. Her talk is a prelude to the community Seed Swap and Gathering on 18 February.
